About this book series

The Yearbook of Sustainable Smart Mining and Energy publishes the latest articles on sustainability and digitalisation in mining and energy.  These two elements ensure a modern mining and energy economy in keeping with the UN’s sustainability goals: environmental protection and economic development through new technology are combined. In this way, affordable and clean energy can be achieved (Goal 7), together with responsible production to reduce environmental costs (Goal 12) and decent work and economic growth as defined in Goal 8: sustainable economic growth will require societies to create the conditions that allow people to have quality jobs that stimulate the economy without harming the environment. The articles in the yearbook show the prerequisites and possibilities for achieving these aims all over the world. The annual volumes discuss the latest developments in mining and energy in various countries, as well as problems in connection with post mining. Accordingly, the yearbook represents a valuable contribution to Springer Nature’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Programme. The Minister of Economy and Digitalisation of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany Pinkwart is its patron. All articles are peer-reviewed.
