New Content ItemProfessor Yongnian Zheng is the honorary director of the Institution of Politics and Economics (IPE) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is also the director of the Institute for International Affairs (IIA) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-SZ). Before joining IIA and IPE, he was the director of the East Asia Institute at National University of Singapore.

He has conducted influential research in the field of international relations, political economy and China study. His research papers have appeared in internationally-refereed journals such as Comparative Political Studies, Political Science Quarterly, Journal of Contemporary China and etc. He also has published numerous books including Discovering Chinese Nationalism in China: Modernization, Identity and International Relations, (Cambridge University Press 1999); Globalization and State Transformation in China (Cambridge University Press 2004), Technological Empowerment: The Internet, State and Society in China (Stanford University Press 2007), Market in State: The Political Economy of Domination in China (coauthored with Yanjie Huang, Cambridge University Press 2018). Besides his academic achievements, he also has extensive experience in advising governments on a wide range of development issues.
