Waste Disposal & Sustainable Energy - Call for papers: Novel biochar production and application
Climate change poses severe threats to the earth's ecosystems and the largest driver of global warming is excessive anthropogenic CO2 emissions. Many countries set up ambitious goals of carbon neutrality to alleviate global warming. Efficient carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies should be developed and applied. The application of biochar is a safe and promising solution to foster carbon neutrality, as biochar could trap CO2 permanently. Biochar can be produced from pyrolysis of a wide range of waste biomass (e.g., rice straw, wood waste, food waste, sludge, and manure) under limited availability of oxygen, after which carbon can be stabilized and stored. In recent years, the biochar production method developed rapidly and biochar has been used for emerging applications. Therefore, we plan to organize a Special Issue that covers original research and review articles on the state-of-the-art of biochar production and application.
Potential topics may include but not limited the following:
- Novel biochar production and engineered biochar
- Advanced characterization for biochar
- Biochar application on soil fertility and crop productivity
- Biochar for pollution control
- Biochar-enhanced construction materials
- Biochar for emerging applications
- Biochar and carbon neutrality
Papers will be published online upon acceptance, regardless of the special issue publication date. Welcome your contributions!
