Cognitive, Affective, & Behavioral Neuroscience - Freelance Submission Systems Administrator/Submissions Managing Editor

Springer and The Psychonomic Society are seeking a freelance submissions administrator/ managing editor (remote) for the Psychonomic Society portfolio of journals.

The Systems Administrator will be responsible for the administration and oversight of manuscript submissions for the continuous support of six journals, currently on the ScholarOne/Manuscript Central platform, but may include other platforms in the future,  in a freelance position that combines administrative support, data analysis, and customer service.

Key Tasks:

  • Provide editorial and organizational support to the Editors in Chief, Associate Editors, and Springer staff; perform all required journal office procedures to ensure that the peer review process runs smoothly 
  • Process all manuscripts and initiate peer review process by assigning manuscripts to Editor-in-Chief; ensure that all manuscript submissions adhere to the guidelines and requirements set forth by Psychonomic Society and Springer with regards to ethical and publication compliance, such as conflict of interest statements, ethics disclosures, and data availability statements. 
  • Oversee manuscript progress from submission to final decision, ensuring process is timely and fair.
  • Correspond with authors, reviewers, and editors, as needed, and respond to all manuscript queries in a timely manner
  • Assist authors, editors, and reviewers with submission-related or account-related questions
  • Liaise with manuscript submissions system and Springer production staff as necessary
  • Provide Springer and/or the Society with periodic manuscript reports which can include: total number of manuscript submissions received on a monthly basis, annual acceptance/rejection rate, geographic breakdown of authors, number  of manuscripts assigned to each Associate Editor; average time from submission to acceptance; average time from submission to first decision; average time from submission to publication; statistics on reviewer turnaround time. Reports may be requested ad hoc, in addition to monthly reports and/or reports needed for annual meetings. 
  • Attend annual meetings as a virtual or in-person attendee

The position reports to the Executive Publisher at Springer responsible for the portfolio. The position comes with an annual stipend, paid monthly. 

The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills, strong written communication skills, strong computer database and data analysis skills, knowledge of the journal publishing process and manuscript submission systems, as well as the ability to function with a minimum of supervision.
