Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy - Continuous Article Publishing (CAP) replaces Online First

28 December 2017

Continuous article publishing

We would like to inform our readers that starting with volume 130 (2018), Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy is changing to continuous article publishing (CAP) mode. CAP is the immediate assignment of articles to issues upon online publication of each article. This means there is no longer an ‘OnlineFirst’ status without a citable volume and page. Instead, accepted articles are directly published with their final volume, issue, and article number.

This workflow reflects the opportunities of the electronic publishing and is no longer restricted with constraints from the print world. Most importantly, it thus prevents delays and confusion about what is the actual publication date and correct citation.

Topical collections

Continuous article publishing implies that regular articles and those that are submitted to a special issue will not be separated. For special issues, we will switch to topical collections (TCs): TC articles will be accessible through the regular volume and issue, as well as collected online under their specific topical tab.

Again, this helps to speed up the publication process, since no author has to wait for another to submit their contribution for a topical issue. In addition, topical collections can also be printed together as a book once all of the articles have been published, subject to agreement with the publisher.
