About the Editor
Hans-Ulrich Kauczor is Full Professor and Chairman of Radiology at the University of Heidelberg as well as the Medical Director of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. He studied Medicine at the Universities of Bonn, Heidelberg and Cologne. He started his Radiology Residency in 1989 at the University Hospital Mainz and received his Habilitation degree as University Lecturer in 1998. From 1996 until 2002 he acted as Assistant Professor for Chest Radiology at the University Hospital Mainz. In 2003 he became Full Professor for Radiology and led the Department of Radiology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg before taking the Chairmanship of Radiology at the University of Heidelberg in 2008. He was among the first to implement helium-3 MRI in clinical trials. Since then, his group has focused on standard protocols for routine comprehensive proton MRI of lung disease. He served as President of the European Society of Thoracic Imaging in 2011 and the Fleischner Society in 2015.Paul M. Parizel, MD, PhD, is Chairman of the Department of Radiology at Antwerp University Hospital, Belgium and tenured full Professor of Radiology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Antwerp. His main fields of interest are neuroradiology and MRI, with a focus on integrating scientific research with patient-oriented clinical applications. Professor Parizel has served as President of both the European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR; 2010–2) and the European Society of Radiology (ESR; 2016–7). Since March 2017 he has been Chairperson of the ESR Board of Directors. Professor Parizel is an honorary fellow or member of leading radiological societies around the world. He has received a number of national and international awards, and in 2014 he presented the honorary Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen Honorary Lecture during the European Congress of Radiology (ECR 2014) in Vienna. He has authored or co-authored more than 350 peer-reviewed scientific papers and is the editor or co-editor of several books, including the Springer publications Clinical MR Imaging: A Practical Approach and Spinal Imaging.
